Your first stop for information regarding the educational offerings at Parkside.

Laurie Sitterding graduated from the College of William and Mary in 1989 with a B.A. in English and Psychology. Her post-graduate education includes coursework toward an M.A. in Biblical Counseling and toward an M.Ed. in Educational Therapy.

She is a certified teacher with over 30 years of teaching experience. She has taught in both public and private schools, and spent 25 years homeschooling her own four children.

She began teaching beginning guitar and piano lessons in the early 1980s. Many of her students have gone on to play and lead worship in a variety of contexts. Today, Parkside Studios offers private piano lessons and both private and group guitar classes for beginners. We are also excited to be offering private piano lessons for adults and seniors.

During the summer of 2006, Laurie completed the training to become a licensed NILD educational therapist and began to help students transform their learning difficulties into successes.

Laurie also began educating preschoolers at this time, utilizing the program she employed in the early elementary instruction of her own four children.

From 2008–2020, Laurie taught courses at KEYS of Virginia, an educational cooperative "partnering with homeschooling families...through excellence in arts and academics." During her time at KEYS, she developed and taught courses for Guitar I, Elementary Language Arts I & II, Creative Writing, and Leadership.

Since 2010, Laurie has been employed by HEAV (Home Educators Association of Virginia) as an editor; she is responsible for editing written copy and proofreading printed materials before they are published.
